How Your Donation Can Help
Dementia is relatively common, but knowledge and effective treatments are limited, partly because dementia can only be confirmed by post mortem, and research can in most cases only be conducted using human tissue.
We need to improve our understanding of how the differing ways that memory impairment affects people relate to what is actually happening to the different cells within the brain. The only way to do this is study the brains of people who have died, those with memory impairment and also non-memory impaired aged individuals for comparison.
This brain donation scheme will enable research using tissue where we have a full picture of how the mind is affected from memory and cognitive testing, to correlate with what is seen in the brain after death.
